The women in this small village have been organized and trained to use the dried fibers of the banana plant, which would normally be discarded. The fibers are dried, applied with a light varnish and cut into thin strips to make several different items. The many tones of brown resemble textured tortoise shell. |

Each card is individually wrapped, comes with an envelope and measures 6.25" x 4.25". TEMAK is an organization offering job training to unwed mothers and girls who live in the Obunga slums, the most destitute area of Kisumu, Kenya. The young women earn income to support themselves and their families, as well as participate in educational forums for HIV/AIDS awareness and other health issues. |
